What is a Tenugui?
A Tenugui is a handy piece of hand dyed and printed fabric with raw cut edges.
They have many uses.
In Japan they are used as the following...
In the Kitchen it can be used as a dishcloth/teatowel. It is a light weight fabric so dries really quickly!
Decoration - It could be used as light upholstery, or to make small homeware accessories. It also looks great running across a table as a centre piece cloth, or up on the wall as a hanging.
Fashion Accessory - It can be used as a neck tie, or a head scarf.
Wiping tool - use it as a hankie or to wipe your glasses.
Napkin or Handtowel - for when you are going somewhere special or have guests round for Supper!
Present Wrapping - Its large in size at 90cm x 34cm long so you could use it as wrapping for a present, or give it as a present itself.
It is a piece of art in itself so would be great framed too!

Care: All Tenugui's are hand printed using the traditional technique called Chusen, therefore it is recommended that they are hand washed in plenty of cool water with no detergent to prolong the dyes and colours. The colours of dyed Tenugui will slightly fade with each washing. The cloth also softens over time. This is the charm and unique quality of the dyeing technique.
